The Biennial

Since its first edition, the European Landscape Biennial has expressed its desire to intently study and discuss landscape interventions, as much from the perspective of landscape architecture as from other disciplines that are linked to its study and evolution.

The Biennial has been consolidated on a European scale in its six previous editions—“Remaking Landscapes” (1999), “Gardens in Arms” (2001), “Only with Nature” (2003), “Landscape: a Product / a Production” (2006)— Storm & stress (2008) and “Liquid Landscape” (2010).And also on an international scale in the lasts edition as we have focused on the contemporary landscapes of USA and China.

Barcelona will open itself to landscape in a symposium adapted to contemporary circumstances. This symposium will last three days and will include talks, presentations by those finalists competing for the Rosa Barba European Landscape Award, papers, roundtable discussions, exhibitions and samples from which we will be able to track and discuss the evolution of landscape design in Europe.

Versus (Biennial against Biennial)

The VII Biennial of Landscape Barcelona claims to be both a catalyst for doubt and a driver to illusions and changes in the field of Landscape Architecture. The announcing of this year’s event suggests interest in discovering new ways of action, while exploring inhospitable areas and guiding discussion towards rethinking old certainties and providing new sensitivities certitudes.

“Biennial against Biennial” wants to be present at the discussion of what should be the landscape design and planning nowadays , aiming to provide a plausible (and exciting) future. Consequently, the biennial will review formats, formulas, concepts and professional practice objectives while watching herself critically as the main living platform for European Landscape and watchtower of the International Landscape Architecture movements.

Santo Domingo Verde Expo

Visualizaciones de Santo Domingo: Estrategias para un Santo Domingo más sostenible.
La muestra presenta una transcripción visual de la ciudad de Santo Domingo coherente con una de las líneas estratégicas del plan: promover prácticas dirigidas hacia el desarrollo sostenible de la ciudad. Un ejercicio visual donde se invita al espectador a reflexionar sobre ciertas temáticas que afectan el medio ambiente urbano y pone en evidencia el deterioro ambiental y las patologías que padece la ciudad.

La muestra materializa una estrategia de alerta propositiva y construye su discurso a través de tres elementos formales: los dibujos originados por el encargo, unos teasers y un fotomontaje. Los dibujos ilustran las cuestiones técnicas que el proyecto de Santo Domingo Verde pretende transmitir a la población, una acción para concientizar a la ciudadanía, los cuales serán utilizados en la página web de Santo Domingo Verde. Los teaser son unas microvideocreaciones, una aportación del artista al proyecto expositivo, en las que plasma impresiones risueñas de la ciudad. El tercer elemento, el fotomontaje, creado mediante la combinación de algunos de los dibujos generados para el proyecto invita al espectador a participar como agente transformador: al aportarle color genera cambio. Un gesto que construye la metáfora del proyecto.

Sobre el creador:

Fito Conesa (Murcia 1980) artista visual, vive y trabaja en Barcelona. Su producción artística se materializa sobre todo, en el entorno del vídeo. Actualmente es artista residente del Centro de Producción de Artes Visuales Hangar. Fito a establecido un fuerte vínculo con el país, la colaboración con Santo Domingo Verde es su segunda colaboración con una institución dominicana, previamente participó en un proyecto con fondos del municipio de Murcia.

The Rosa Barba Prize is the most renowned prize for Landscape Architecture in Europe, which is given as part of the European Biennial of Landscape Architecture that takes place every two years in Barcelona. In 2010, 427 projects were submitted to the competition, out of which 9 have been announced as finalists. The Regeneration project of the public Spaces of the Tel Aviv Port was presented during the Biennial Symposium and was chosen by the jury as the winner of the Rosa Barba award.
